WHO IS PAKTECH?
PakTech, a family owned company started in 1991, is the innovative leader of 100% recycled and 100% recyclable injection mold packaging handles and automated application equipment. Headquartered in Eugene, Oregon, PakTech recently opened a second manufacturing production facility in neighboring Cottage Grove to provide increased production capacity and expected growth.
WHAT DOES PAKTECH DO?
WHO DOES PAKTECH SELL TO?
PakTech works with the makers of products to create a package based on their needs. For example, a juice processor needs to sell TwinPak products at a club store. PakTech will supply a stock or custom handle and will provide a machine to apply the handles automatically at their plant. With that, the juice company can supply the club store with a complete package.
CAN OUR COMPANY COUNT ON PAKTECH?
Absolutely. We have been serving leading processors for over 20 years now with our handle and application equipment. These businesses are successful because they make wise choices- like choosing PakTech to support their multi-packing needs.
WHO ARE PAKTECH'S CUSTOMERS?
PakTech has been serving ALL leading food and beverage manufacturers with handles and equipment for over 18 years. Think of a food or beverage product and chances are we serve the maker- regularly or on a special project basis. In addition, we serve leading 'consumer goods' companies, which are products such as cleansing supplies. The retail or club store is not PakTech's primary customer. However, in many cases, the club store or retail store will recommend PakTech to prospective sellers!
ABOUT HDPE HANDLES
There are many types of plastics! While we have tested many types, including bio-based material made from corn, we strongly believe HDPE to be the best raw material for our handle products: the physical properties along with our molding process and designs make it the strongest, least brittle, perfectly flexible material.
IS HDPE RECYCLABLE?
YES YES YES! HDPE, or #2 plastic is the most universally recyclable plastic available for consumer use. All of our handles are stamped with the #2 HDPE logo, as well as the words 'please recycle'. Learn more about our eco-conscious philosophy on our environmental impact page.
WHAT IS INJECTION MOLDING?
Injection molding is a process of making plastic pieces of almost any shape, form or function. Hard pellets of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) are transformed into a liquid, squirted into a mold, allowed to harden and taken out of the mold via a robotic arm. The whole process is much more complicated and involves precision molding and processing, but this is it in a nut-shell. Several of our online videos show an injection molding machine in action. PakTech has expertise in the injection molding process and believes it to be the best way of making 3D parts which allow for comfort and strength.
WHAT KIND OF HANDLES DO YOU MAKE?
We have hundreds of handles, in many different sizes and styles. Check out our Handles pages to view current stock handles.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STOCK AND CUSTOM HANDLE?
A stock handle is one that is currently in production, meaning they are made in multiple cavities. A custom handle requires a new design and prototype mold, and we do this weekly. Our in-house design team and mold room make it a quick and inexpensive process.
WHAT COLORS CAN I GET?
We have a wide variety of colors to choose from. You can see most of them on our handles page. Our customer service team is dedicated to helping your company chose a color that compliments your package.
HOW MUCH DO HANDLES COST?
Our handles are priced competitively. The price depends of handle size and order size, and the higher the order volume, the lower the price. Our Sales team is happy to assess your needs and provide quotes based on your specific project.
ABOUT HANDLE APPLICATORS
WHAT IS AUTOMATED APPLICATION EQUIPMENT?
Many customers use so many handles that it is inefficient to apply the handles using manual labor. For this reason, PakTech designs, builds, installs and services machines that apply PakTech handle on-line at their plant. Check out our handle applicators page for model details and to see video.
HOW DOES THE EQUIPMENT WORK?
Superbly. Basically, once bottles are filled, capped and labeled, they travel down a conveyor system either in a case or individually. Once the conveyor reaches PakTech's machine, it applies handles as required by the customer. For example, a company needs 3 TwinPak handles in each of their cases (in a 6 bottle case), at a fairly low rate of speed. The open case of completed bottles will enter the PakTech applicator, where it is stopped and the machine's heads gently but swiftly press handles over the caps and into place. The case then leaves our applicator and heads down the line to be taped up and palletized for delivery. One case after another enters the applicator until the customer's order is completed. Please visit the handle applicators page, where you'll find links to footage of each machine in action.
DOES THE APPLICATOR GET MOVED ON AND OFF THE LINE AS NEEDED?
Not necessary. When not in use, the applicator has a 'thru-put' capacity so it remains on the line, but cases pass through the machine without action. This allows the applicator to remain dialed-in and ready to go as needed.
CAN I SEE HOW THEY WORK?
Yes, please visit the handle applicators page, where you'll find links to footage of each machine in action.
IS THERE ONLY ONE TYPE OF MACHINE?
Not at all! Our customers have many, many requirements and we handle them all. For lower volumes or slower speeds, a customer may require a tool that assists with hand application, or they may want a semi-automatic machine for speeds up to 15 cases per minute. For higher volume, faster lines, our intermittent motion models can apply handles at the rates of up to 35 cases per minute. And for fast, high volume lines, machines apply handles at a continuous motion rate- up to 225 bottles per minute. Check out our handle applicators page to find links to all available models and specs.
HOW DO I KNOW WHAT MACHINE OUR COMPANY NEEDS?
Just call us! We work with all leading brand companies, and many lesser-known and we are happy to help you figure out what it is you need for automation. In fact, that's what we do best; tell us what you need and we'll work with you to make it happen.
ARE THE MACHINES EXPENSIVE?
Our Application Equipment is priced very reasonably. Naturally, the faster and more complex the machine, the higher the cost. However, because the machines tend to reflect our customer's volume needs, the 'pay back' of expenditures is quick. Again, please talk to our Sales staff further to get a specific quotation based on your specific needs.
ONCE INSTALLED, WHAT ABOUT SERVICING?
PakTech designs, builds, installs and SERVICES our equipment so you will not be without 24/7 support. We also provide spare parts and have an extensive training program to help educate your senior maintenance. We strongly believe this helps keep servicing costs and maintenance issues at a minimum.
